In this first semi-final of the ATP Next Gen Finals 2024, we find the American Alex Michelsen and his compatriot Learner Tien. Alex Michelsen made his mark in this tournament since he finished first in his group with a total of 3 points, the maximum point that was possible to win. Indeed, the American easily won his first two matches against Nishesh Basavareddy and Luca Van Assche before benefiting from the retirement of Juncheng Shang in the third and final match. Also present in this tournament last season, Alex Michelsen seems determined to do better since he failed to win a single match during the group stages.

Learner Tien, for his part, narrowly qualified for these semi-finals since he had only scored one point before the last match of the group stages. Indeed, after creating a surprise in the first match by beating the 48th in the world Jakub Mensik in a close match of 5 rounds, he then lost to the 145th in the world Joao Fonseca. It was therefore necessary at all costs for him to win a second point in the ranking and the American was once again able to create a surprise since he stopped the favorite and world number 20 Arthur Fils, 3 rounds to 1. He should be motivated in this match to give everything to reach the final.
