In the Antibes SNCF station area, a 55-year-old man was brutally attacked on Thursday December 12, 2024, around 6 a.m. While going to work, Marc, a carpenter by profession, crossed paths with three young individuals who violently targeted him. Currently hospitalized in intensive care, his family is in shock.
An altercation that turns into a nightmare
The events took place on avenue Jules Grec, while Marc was walking to catch his 5:50 a.m. train towards Saint-Laurent-du-Var, where he works. According to his wife Stéphanie, who testified toNews Niceit all started with a stampede.
“Three young people jostled him as they passed. He simply asked them to apologize, but they took out a tear gas canister and gassed him,” she said.
Marc tried to flee, but, at 55, he was unable to escape his attackers, aged in their twenties.
“They put him on the ground and beat him”
After catching up with him, the individuals showered Marc with a hail of blows, beating him kicks and punches while he was on the ground. The victim called for help, and a person, alerted by his cries, ended up notifying the emergency services.
“It lasted about ten minutes. He was admitted to the hospital at 6:25 a.m.,” explains Stéphanie.
Marc's injuries are serious:
- Perforated lung,
- 8 fractured ribs,
- broken shoulder and jaw,
- His eye was seriously damaged, describes his wife, still in shock.
Marc's vital prognosis is not in jeopardy, but doctors remain cautious about the potential after-effects, particularly in the lungs.
“A selfless and hardworking man”
Stéphanie describes her husband as a caring and hard-working man, known for his dedication.
“He has never taken sick leave in his life. He is someone who has always helped others, he was a volunteer firefighter in his youth. Why is this happening to him? »
His employer, Nicolas Ciarafoni, shares the same sentiment:
“I have worked with Marc for 17 years. He is a non-confrontational person, always reliable. What he experienced is incomprehensible. »
An ongoing investigation
For now, the legal proceedings are at the initial stage. Stéphanie filed a complaint at the Antibes police station, but Marc has not yet been interviewed by investigators due to his state of health. Contacted, the Grasse public prosecutor's office has not yet responded to requests from the press.
“I sincerely thank the person who notified the emergency services. Without her, he could have died,” says Stéphanie, moved.
Marc should soon enter a rest center to continue his convalescence, after further medical analyses.
An attack that raises questions
The motivations of the attackers remain unclear. For Stéphanie, these individuals had a clear intention:
“They were looking for a target to beat up that morning. This was not a trivial altercation. »
This brutal attack, in a neighborhood close to the SNCF station, arouses emotion and incomprehension among the residents of Antibes. A thorough investigation should clarify the circumstances and enable the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
