Juan Martin Del Potro wanted to return to the court one last time, as a player. He will do so during an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic, in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 1is next December. During an interview given to The Nationthe Argentinian praised the class and generosity of the man with 24 Grand Slam titles.
“One day, in Miami, he called me: 'Delpo, I know you're here, I want to go to dinner together to talk.' I obviously canceled all my plans and went to dinner. It was a joy to see him again and we had an incredible discussion, about life, matches, Alcaraz, Sinner… It was a spectacular discussion that we would never have imagined in competition. After hours of conversation and trust, he said to me: 'Tell me about your life. What are you doing ? How are you ? There is news that has been circulating, is it true, is it false? How do you feel about this?' Then he said to me: 'Okay, let's get to the point, is it true that you want to say goodbye, play a match in Argentina?' I told him how I felt: 'The only way this is going to happen is if you want to come with me that day.' Otherwise, I won't be emotionally ready to face this and I'm not convinced. And he said to me: 'You can count on me, I will do everything I can to help you.' »
