Qualification for the ATP Finals (Masters) in Turin is obviously one of the important topics of the moment on the ATP Tour. The race for the final places has raged in recent weeks as there were still many hoping to be one of the lucky eight.
Among them, Andrey Rublev who found himself 9th in the Race ranking after Paris-Bercy and who therefore decided to compete in the Moselle Open this week to try to regain 8th place. The Russian won his first match Tuesday morning in Metz, dominating Lorenzo Sonego (7-6, 7-5) to qualify for the quarter-finals.
But in the meantime, Novak Djokovic officially withdrew from the Masters tournament, making Rublev's 9th place qualifying. The Russian then announced, Tuesday evening, that he was withdrawing from the table in Metz due to an abdominal injury.
An injury and timing that necessarily raise questions among Tennis followers. It seems in fact to allow Rublev not to expend unnecessary energy before going to compete against the best players in the world in Italy.
On the side of the organizers of the Moselle Open, however, there is no doubt about the reality of the injury, officially at least: “During his match, Rublev felt pain, confirmed by the medical staff on site who suspected an abdominal injury.
He chose to withdraw from the tournament and travel to Turin to undergo a treatment and recovery protocol, in order to improve his chances of competing at the ATP Finals. »
