Winner of a match against Struff, Corentin Moutet took advantage of Rublev's withdrawal to reach the semi-finals of the last ATP tournament of the season.
Winner in eighth after a big fight in three sets (7-6, 5-7, 6-3) against the German Jan-Lennard Struff, seeded n°7 at the ATP 250 in Metz, the Tricolore Corentin Moutet was thinking of joining the quarters. But Djokovic's withdrawal from the Turin Masters created many upheavals.
The report? Four players were competing for the last three places available for the end-of-year tournament bringing together the eight best players of the season in Turin. If Sinner, Alcaraz, Zverev, Medvedev and Fritz were already qualified, the last places were played out between Djokovic, Ruud, de Minaur and Rublev with a favorable ballot for the Serb. This is why the other three were involved in ATP tournaments to obtain the last necessary points. The former world number one forfeited, they no longer needed to play to qualify and therefore all withdrew from their tournament except Ruud. But the Norwegian should logically follow the two other players to prepare for the Masters.
Rublev's withdrawal this Tuesday therefore benefits Corentin Moutet who was to face him in the quarter-final. The hero of the last Roland-Garros will play his first ATP Indoor final in Metz and benefits from a fairly open draw.
