After a first day disturbed by the wind, the Château-d’Oex International Balloons Festival (VD) was able to take off on Sunday. Dozens of hot air balloons have been raised in the sky of the Vaudois Alps. On the other hand, on Monday flights were canceled.
The first flights were able to take place from 11:00 am, said the communication and promotion manager of the event, Julien Magnin. The weather conditions are favorable, specify the organizers on social networks and in a press release, saying “delighted to see the growing enthusiasm of the public”.
On Saturday, the wind came to play the spoilsport. The flights had to be canceled, but the animations and captive flights had been maintained. In total, this day attracted nearly 10,000 people, according to the organizers. Nearly 3000 visitors were able to discover the interior of a hot air balloon envelope.

Current cancellations
The flights scheduled for Monday were however canceled, said the organizers on their website. The weather conditions deteriorate and should remain unstable until Wednesday, they explain.
-The cancellations of flights due to the weather is commonplace in this emblematic event of the Pays-d’Enhaut. “We depend on the good weather and the wind conditions,” summarized Julien Magnin on Saturday.
“Last year there were nine days of consecutive flight, morning and afternoon. It was to date the only time it happened in 45 editions,” he added. Conversely, another edition was distinguished by only half a day of flight over the nine days of the event.
The 45th edition of the Château-d’Oex International Balloons Festival is held until February 2. More than 60 pilots from around the world must take part.
