iPhone 17 Air Leaks Reportedly Teases All-New Camera Bar

Thinner, but also with a brand new photo lens bar, the leaks regarding the iPhone 17 Air are causing noise and chatter.

Slimming design, more chic

For months, rumors have been circulating that Apple could launch an entirely new iPhone model this year: the iPhone Air, a new ultra-thin iPhone that could mark the first big design change to the line in many years.

The rumors rather describe a phone intended to satisfy people ready to sacrifice certain functions in favor of a sleeker and thinner design. In fact, it’s the iPhone version of the original MacBook Air laptop.

The thinnest iPhone ever

Other measure, depending on the site The Informationthe prototypes of the iPhone 17 Air would be between 5 and 6 millimeters thick.

More recently, Ming-Chi Kuo, the famous specialist in Asia and Apple products, indicated that the iPhone 17 Air would measure 5.5mm at its thinnest point.

For comparison, all of these possibilities are significantly thinner than the current iPhone 16 models. All of these numbers also suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever, surpassing the 6 frame .9mm of the iPhone 6.

For comparison, here are the current thicknesses of the iPhone 16:

  • iPhone 16 : 7,80 mm
  • iPhone 16 Plus : 7,80 mm
  • iPhone 16 Pro : 8,25 mm
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max : 8,25 mm

The famous photo bar

Another aspect of the iPhone 17 Air that has been the subject of much controversy is the camera bump. The device is expected to feature a single 48-megapixel camera on the back, which is a significant change from the iPhone 16’s two cameras and the iPhone’s three cameras 16Pro.

In a social media post today, expert Majin Bu shared an image showing the alleged back design of the iPhone 17 Air. The image comes from a source on Weibo.

Majin Bu has a mixed track record when it comes to sharing Apple hardware leaks, especially this early in the rumor cycle. However, he claims to have also seen separate CAD drawings from previously accurate sources that corroborate this camera bar design for the iPhone 17 Air, on his X account.

An artist’s photo was even created from the CAD drawings.

The iPhone 17 Air screen

Everything suggests that the OLED screen of the iPhone 17 will use the same LTPO panel technology as the current Pro models. This could result in higher refresh rates and lower power consumption, as it allows displays to vary their refresh rate between 120 and 1Hz. This is part of the reason why the display feature Apple’s permanent battery works without putting too much strain on the battery.

As for the screen size, rumors agree that it will measure around 6.6 inches. That’s a bit less than the 6.7-inch screen of the iPhone 16 Plus, which the 17 Air could replace this year. The phone is expected to feature a Dynamic Island with Face ID, like the rest of the flagship lineup.

That said, there are still eight months until Apple unveils the iPhone 17 Air. There is still time for Apple to change the design of the iPhone 17 Air.

It’s possible that Apple is working on multiple design prototypes for the iPhone 17 Air and ultimately opts in a different direction.
