The new database uses a method called “homomorphic encryption”, which guarantees that the data remains encrypted during their treatment. Apple has built this into its Phone app, where requests are sent to Truecaller’s servers and then decrypted locally on the iPhone to display the caller’s identity. Although this process is expensive and sometimes slightly delayedil guarantees and high level of confidentiality and data security.

Truecaller also modernized its iOS app in 2023 with additional featuresbut these required a interaction with Siri to identify a caller, which limited their effectiveness. The current update finally eliminates these constraints in order to offer smoother and truly real-time operation.

This advancement is crucial for Truecaller, as the iPhone represents a significant portion of its revenue. Despite its 2.6 million paying subscribersonly 750,000 use the application on iOS. However, the iOS subscriptions generate 40% of these, with a conversion rate five times higher than that of Android.
