Facebook parent company Meta Platforms is preparing improved versions of its smart glasses, but is also researching new wearable devices such as smart watches and camera headphones. According to the Bloomberg news agency, Mark Zuckerberg’s group could want to compete, for example, with Samsung’s connected watches and Apple’s AirPods.
The wearable devices Bloomberg is referring to represent an attempt to reposition Meta as ‘an innovator in the field of artificial intelligence’. AI technology therefore needs to be integrated more explicitly into new products.
The social media firm has already spent tens of billions on innovation based on so-called augmented and virtual reality. Several versions of its helmets and glasses have also already been launched, but without having really appealed to the general public, it seems.

Meta has been considering releasing its own smart watch for quite some time now, but it has changed the details and priorities of the project several times. According to Bloomberg, the gadget has already been “canceled and relaunched multiple times.”
-Facebook’s parent company is now reportedly considering launching the smart watch this year. It cannot be ruled out that the watch will also become an extension of Meta’s smart glasses, for example with a view to controlling them or quickly viewing photos taken with the glasses. If Meta decides to additionally produce headphones for consumers, they will probably only be released in a few years. Bloomberg mentions in this regard headphones with integrated camera, which could to a certain extent be an alternative to smart glasses.
