Leonardo García Alarcón, general and artistic director of the Cité bleue in Geneva, was named “artist of the year” by the jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA). This Argentinian conductor, harpsichordist and composer will receive his prize during a ceremony which will take place on March 19 at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf (D).

These awards are among the most renowned musical prizes on the classical scene. Leonardo García Alarcón, founder of the Cappella Mediterranea ensemble, has been based in Geneva for a long time, a city he considers his “second home”. He is also artistic director of the Namur Chamber Choir.

This appointment was announced on Monday by the Cité Bleue, which expressed its pride in a press release. This 300-seat performance hall created by the Cité universitaire reopened its doors at the beginning of 2024 after more than two years of renovation work. It offers concerts, musical theater, operas and creations combining music and dance.
