The RTX 5090 is ultra powerful, but you will have to change the power supply to equip your PC with it

ZOTAC’s highest-performance RTX 5090 graphics card boasts a higher TDP than Nvidia announced. The manufacturer also communicates its feeding recommendations.

During CES 2025, Nvidia made the first models of RTX 50 series graphics cards official. The GeForce RTX 5070, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, GeForce RTX 5080 and GeForce RTX 5090 were thus revealed. New information about them has been trickling down to us ever since. This time, it is ZOTAC, which will offer personalized versions of these graphics cards, which tells us more about the RTX 5090 that it will market.

The manufacturer lists three RTX 5090 references on its site: la RTX 5090 SOLID OC, la GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID et la GeForce RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY. They of course share a large number of technical characteristics (21,760 CUDA cores, 512-bit memory bus, 32 GB of DDR7 VRAM, 28 Gbps memory speeds, etc.), but we see a difference in terms of energy consumption.

600 W TDP and minimum 1000 W power supply for a ZOTAC RTX 5090

The RTX 5090 SOLID OC and RTX 5090 SOLID from Zotac display a TDP of 575 W, the thermal envelope communicated by Nvidia. But the RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY, the manufacturer’s most high-end model, announces an even higher TDP, reaching 600 W.

VideoCardz estimates that these 600 W could be unlocked by a high-performance mode that would have to be actively done manually, through dual BIOS functionality. But we do not have reliable information at the moment and it remains possible that the RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY could go up to 600 W without user intervention. In any case, you will need a very good power supply to accompany one of these three graphics cards, since Zotac recommends a model supporting at least 1000 W.

The other characteristic that changes from one graphics card to another is the GPU clock frequency. It is 2,407 MHz on the RTX 5090 SOLID, 2,422 MHz on the RTX 5090 SOLID OC and 2 467 MHz sur la RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY. Nvidia has announced a price of 2,349 euros for the RTX 5090 Founder’s Edition. At ZOTAC, the RTX 5090 SOLID and SOLID OC should be a little more expensive, and the RTX 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY much more expensive.

The RTX 5090 will go on sale from January 30, 2025. The first tests from the specialized press will be published on January 24, which will give us a good idea of the performance of this new generation.
