Gers firefighters released in 2024, despite the increase in road accidents

And even less than in 2022. In fact, “operational activity stabilizes”, estimates the departmental fire and rescue service of Gers (SDIS 32). There were 13,315 interventions in 2024, one every 39 minutesagainst 14,561 in 2023 and 14,055 in 2022. In fact, the SDIS found an activity that was significantly identical to that which presided over the Pandemic de Cavid (13,238 in 2019). Until now, the number of interventions has not ceased to increase from year to year. It is the first time that it has dropped as much in a year (excluding COVID years).

More numerous and more serious accidents

34,893 calls were “served” In 2024 for 52,296 “received”, one hundred per day on average. With an arrival on site firefighters in 17 minutes and 5 seconds on average and 11,321 rescued victims.

Most of the time, as usual, it was help for the person. They represent 78 % of outings. And even increased by 8 %. Besides, there are few fires (6 %) and accidents seem to be little weighing (8 %). But it is a number trompe l'oeil. Because road accidents have been increasing. There were 1,062 outings for them. Against “only” 987 the previous year.

Above all, their consequences were more serious. With More dead (16) And more injured (186). Figures have not been seen for several years.

A collapsed church, a giant fire, historic floods …

Apart from accidents, the firefighters made a lot ofstriking interventions. The SDIS retains three for 2024, in different registers. The collapse of the roof of the Church of Monferran-Savès on January 2, the fire of a composting company in Casteron on March 14 and the floods of June 8 and 9, which touched the north of the department.

But the activity was not marked only by interventions for 1,262 firefighters of the department (including 86 professionals to which must be added 50 administrative and technical staff). There have also been many training courses, including those with the famous “Gestures that save”given at 3,164 Gers.

And the sites. Thus, the barracks of Montesquiou has been inaugurated, and the rehabilitation of those of Miradoux and Barcelonne-du-Gers were completed. Constructions of fire and rescue centers of Plaisance and Mauvezin are in progress, such as the rehabilitation of those of JEGUN and COURREENSAN.
