Ubisoft postpones Assassin's Creed Shadows again and chooses the date very poorly

The release of Assassin's Creed Shadows, the new opus of the successful series, has been postponed again. The problem is that Ubisoft chose a date that has a very special meaning in Japan, the country in which the action of its game takes place.

The video game series Assassin’s Creed marked his era. From the first episode in 2007, the success was immediate and the franchise has never stopped growing since. Not all the opuses are memorable, but the saga is well enough known for each release to generate excitement. The latest, Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis also talked about. Not necessarily for the right reasons, that said.

Originally scheduled for November 2024, the game has been postponed. The release is then set for February 14, 2025, Ubisoft explaining that thanks to this deadline, it will be able in particular ensure that no major bug taints the title. Finally, Assassin's Creed Shadows will not be released on Valentine's Day. The studio announces that it needs a little more time to “implement returns [de la communauté] and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging experience out of the box“. Problem: the choice of the new date is very clumsy.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' new release date could have been better timed

Assassin's Creed Shadows will arrive on 20 mars 2025. This day is special to Japancountry in which the action of the game takes place. It will mark the sad 30th anniversary of the sarin gas attacks on the Tokyo subwaycommitted by members of the Aum Shinrikyō sect. The attack left 13 dead and more than 6,300 injured. A new controversy therefore comes to further weaken Ubisoft's game, after that of the choice of hero.

Among the criticisms pushing the French firm to postpone its game in order to refine it, many come from Japanese players. This is clearly a careless mistake on the part of Ubisoft, but in a context where its future is uncertain, it could cost it more than expected.
