(CercleFinance.com) – Apple, faced with a ‘mixed’ reception for the iPhone 16, remained in second position in the global smartphone market in 2024, according to a study published Monday by Counterpoint Research.
With sales volumes down 2% last year, the Apple firm lost one point of market share in terms of mobile device deliveries, to show a market share of 18% compared to 19% in 2023, indicates the research firm.
A decline that Ivan Lam, analyst at Counterpoint, attributes to the absence of standard features linked to AI within the latest model marketed by Apple.
The research office notes, however, that the American group has benefited from consumer enthusiasm for its high-end devices and achieved strong growth in non-strategic markets such as Latin America, Africa and Asia Pacific.
With a market share of 19%, Samsung remained at the top of the smartphone market in 2024, specifies Counterpoint Research, which highlights that the South Korean manufacturer has benefited from the integration of AI within the S24 range , which received a warm reception in Western Europe and the United States.
The study reveals that the smartphone market rebounded by 4% in 2024 after experiencing one of its worst years in ten years in 2023, but also that Xiaomi recorded one of the most dynamic growth rates to maintain third place in the ranking ahead of Oppo.
