Tubi, the free streaming platform owned by Fox Corporation, has just announced very good results for 2024, with 97 million monthly active users and more than 10 billion hours of content viewed.

Netflix, Disney+ or even Amazon Prime Video are not the only streaming platforms with tens of millions of monthly users. Another service called Tubi, completely free, is also experiencing quite impressive growth. In question, its FAST model (Free Ad-Supported Television), that is to say financed by advertising, is a major asset for many users in a landscape where paid streaming services are multiplying.

Acquired by Fox Corporation in 2020 for $440 million, the platform has evolved considerably since its launch in 2014. Tubi stands out with an imposing library of 275,000 films and series episodessupplemented by more than 300 original productions. According to Nielsen, the platform now represents 1.8% of total television viewing time in the United States, a fairly significant figure for a free service.

The Most Popular Streaming Platform Is Not What You Think

Tubi has nothing to envy of certain other streaming giants

« Our success is based on a simple strategy: favoring the user experience by offering unique content and a wide diversity of choices.“, explains Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi. This approach is paying off financially: Lachlan Murdoch, CEO of Fox, announced that Tubi is expected to cross the $1 billion revenue milestone for the current fiscal year.

The platform particularly attracts “cord-cutters” and “cord-nevers”, these viewers having abandoned or never subscribed to cable television. They represent 63% of its audience. Adam Lewinson, director of content, announces that 90% of consumption is done on video on demand.

In the FAST landscape, Tubi faces increased competition. Samsung Plus claims 88 million monthly users, while Pluto TV, which stopped reporting its numbers in 2023, had around 80 million users.
