Nintendo Switch 2: after rumors and leaks, discover divination – News

It’s a mess (you’ll excuse us). The leaks follow one another and end up looking similar, giving a good overall idea of the design, but also of the technical capabilities of the next Nintendo console. What then follows are speculations based on speculations, social networks which catch fire and allow “specialists” to take positions each more absurd than the last. For example, we have seen some fanatics advance with demonic confidence – based on data that is in no way confirmed – that seeing the Switch 2 align with the graphics of the PS4 Pro (a machine capable of running The Last of Us II) would be disappointing. They will be reminded that it is a portable console, a fact that many seem to forget, hoping for some obscure reason that Nintendo will be able to compete with Sony or Microsoft in the pure power department (for a little let there be the desire). The right thing to do for the savvy Internet user in these dark times is to avoid social media at all costs, unless the prospect of losing precious neurons seems somewhat attractive to you.

The problem is that even while avoiding social networks, the news media start sharing completely mind-blowing data, closer to divination than sensible news. A little speculation is always nice and it can be a simple way to invite readers to wonder (although the overdose is starting to rear its head), but when we start to relaying reports of potential sales of a not-yet-announced console, we are clearly entering into those with psychiatric tendencies. Since yesterday, Wednesday January 8, many media (especially English-speaking) have started relaying a Circana study, shared on Bluesky by its boss in the video games section Mat Piscatella, which predicts sales of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Seeing as how an announcement appears to be coming soon (but who knows) – I have Nintendo’s next hardware device selling 4.3 million units in the US in 2025 (assuming 1H launch), accounting for approximately 1/3rd of all video game console hardware units sold in the year (excluding PC Portables).

You read correctly: this Switch 2, of which we do not even know the marketing date, would sell 4.3 million copies in the USA during its first year of operation. “ Given that an announcement seems imminent (but who knows) – I estimate that Nintendo’s next device will sell 4.3 million units in the US in 2025 (assuming a first-half launch), representing approximately a third of all video game consoles sold during the year (excluding portable PCs) » he says on the network, with a wet finger. And since we’ve started, why stop: at the same time, the Switch 2 would still sell less well than the PS5 over the year according to the study.

As a reminder, neither the release date of the console, nor its price, nor its technical specifications, nor the games that will accompany it, nor Nintendo’s capacity to support the potential demand on the production side are known. However, these data seem important to take into account within the framework of a study of this kind, no?

So obviously, you could blame us for having relayed “the information”, we too, thus participating in this immense circus which is now daily. In itself, you would not be wrong, but do us a favor: dare to consider these few words rather as a (massacring) mood post about the disastrous state of the media environment around the imminent revelation of a new expected cultural product.
