This year, at CES 2025, Microsoft reaffirmed its commitment to Windows 11 by presenting a new generation of PCs called “Copilot+”. Designed to exploit artificial intelligence (AI), these computers attempt to embody the future of the Windows ecosystem. But one thing is clear: Windows 12 is not on the agenda.

According to Microsoft, 2024 marked a turning point in the adoption of AI by the general public and professionals. This trend will continue in 2025 with more and more Copilot+ PCs, equipped with integrated AI functionalities accessible directly from the taskbar. These machines will offer a wide range of tools, ranging from productivity to personal assistance, in collaboration with applications like those developed by OpenAI.

However, AI is not the only asset. Microsoft claims that Copilot+ PCs outperform five-year-old Windows computers. They would also be 58% faster than a MacBook equipped with an M3 processor, thanks in particular to the power of the Snapdragon X Elite chips.

An inevitable transition to Windows 11

CES 2025 is also an event not to be missed to remind people of the imminent end of Windows 10. As confirmed by Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and director of consumer marketing, Windows 10 will stop receiving updates after the October 14, 2025. A one-year extension will be possible thanks to extended security updates through a paid subscription. Microsoft, however, encourages concerned users to migrate to Windows 11.

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 offers advanced features, but also enhanced protection.

Finally, regarding a hypothetical Windows 12, Microsoft has not revealed anything. The giant is determined to focus on the optimization and adoption of Windows 11. With the arrival of Copilot+ PCs and the updates planned for Windows 11, Microsoft seems ready to extend the life of its current system. Unless the situation turns around, the company could even postpone the introduction of Windows 12 beyond 2026.
