The South Korean electronics giant has not given up on innovation in the foldable smartphone sector. 2025 could mark the arrival of a competitor to the now famous Mate XT.
A true phenomenon of the year 2024, the Huawei Mate XT has monopolized the attention of technophiles thanks to its tri-folding screen. Determined not to let itself be walked on, Samsung is preparing a competitor to Huawei’s mobile, in order to regain its crown as the king of foldable smartphones.
According to information from the Korean media Sisa and relayed by Phone Arena, Samsung does indeed intend to launch its own version of the Mate XT in 2025, as rumors have claimed so far. The mobile would arrive on the market during the second half of the year, but will a priori be far from being a general public product.
Few copies…
First of all, if we are to believe information from Korea, the manufacturer would aim to produce less than 300,000 copies of its phone. The technical and technological challenges of building a device that folds in three supposedly forced Samsung to play it safe for this first gadget.
Faced with the millions of Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 that the same company plans to produce, suffice to say that this competitor to the Mate XT is unlikely to end up on the shelves of the store near you. It’s a safe bet that only a few Asian countries will actually have the right to do so.
…All sold very expensive
And even if you managed to get your hands on a copy, you would still have to be strong enough to buy it. According to sources interviewed by Sisa, Samsung’s future phone “would be much more expensive than existing foldable phones ».
We can therefore imagine that the device will be even more expensive than the Mate XT which, remember, was already sold at €2,800 in raw conversion. Suffice to say that Samsung’s mobile will be more of a collector’s item than a general public smartphone.
Et question specs ?
Regarding technical characteristics, we only know that the hinges will not be in the same direction as on the Mate XT in order to protect the screen once the mobile is folded. An intriguing choice that Samsung would have taken to ensure the “durability” of its phone.

What are the best foldable smartphones in 2025? The comparison
Fully unfolded, the mobile could reach a screen size of 12 inches or so. Even half unfolded, the phone would offer 10.5 inches of display, enough to seriously overshadow your tablet. And incidentally to the Mate XT which displays more or less the same display space.
