Since the launch of Demon's Souls in 2009, FromSoftware has managed to inspire dozens of other studios, if not hundreds, with its well-oiled game mechanics. However, after surprising everyone with the announcement of Elden Ring Nightreign during the Game Awards 2024 ceremony, it has just been confirmed that this new game will be stripped of an iconic mechanic from the studio's previous productions.
Players will not be able to leave messages on the ground in Elden Ring Nightreign
From Demon's Souls, through Dark Souls, Bloodborne, then to Elden Ring, FromSoftware had offered players the possibility of leaving messages on the ground, allowing them to help each other, or simply to play little pranks.
However, in an interview with IGN Japan, game director Junya Ishizaki confirmed that FromSoftware made the decision not to integrate this mechanic. Indeed, since each game will only last around forty minutes, players will clearly not have time to write or read messages. However, it will still be possible to see the ghosts of other fighters
“You will still be able to see other players' ghosts, but the ability to leave messages has been removed. The reason we removed the message function is that in this game, where each session lasts around 40 minutes, there is no time to write your own message or read messages written by others. »
What is Elden Ring Nighreign?
If the principle of Nightreign is not yet clear in your mind, then a slight refresher is in order. It is a roguelite, in that the team of players will have to survive a cycle of three days and three nights, periods during which they will have to make combat and exploration decisions on changing maps, in the goal of becoming powerful enough to defeat bosses at the end of each day.
Players will have eight unique characters to choose from, each with their own abilities and powerful Ultimates. Nightreign will take place in Limveld, where fighters will face a nocturnal cycle that will shrink the map with the arrival of the Night's Tide, which can be translated as the night tide.
For those who are skeptical about respecting the lore of Elden Ring, FromSoftware has made it clear that this new game will take place in a universe parallel to the events of the 2022 experience.
A first test will take place at the beginning of 2025
If you're eager to try this new experience, that's a good thing, since FromSoftware has announced that it will hold a network test. Registrations will start on January 10 and tests will then take place during the month of February.
“Network Testing is a preliminary verification test where selected testers play a portion of the game before the game is fully launched.
Various technical verifications of online systems will be examined by performing large-scale network load tests.”
This first test will only take place on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, and it is important to note that registration does not guarantee selection.
Otherwise, to face creatures from Dark Souls, Elden Ring, but also brand new ones, you will have to wait for the game to be released later in 2025 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC .
