CES 2025: Samsung equips its televisions with Vision AI

This year, Samsung will make its smart TVs even smarter. At the CES technology show in Las Vegas, the South Korean firm is presenting the first screens equipped with Vision AI technology, which adds a dose of artificial intelligence to the visual experience.

Vision AI is the collective name for many gadgets driven by artificial intelligence. First, Samsung uses AI to improve image and sound quality. This is done by analyzing on-screen content and environmental factors in real time, after which the image and sound are dynamically optimized. Some models are additionally equipped with 8K AI Upscaling Pro, where AI can ‘intelligently’ upscale programs in ‘lower’ resolutions up to 8K quality.

Everything is subtitled

But it’s the real AI gadgets that stand out. This is the case with Live Translate, for example, where an AI model directly translates and subtitles television programs in any language. Or how you will soon be able to watch channels like ZDF or NOS without any problem, even if your German or Dutch is not very good.

For its part, Click to Search immediately provides information about what is displayed on the screen. Think about the name of an actor, details about a specific product, or the filming location of the movie you’re watching. Streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Apple + also offer some of these options, but on new Samsung TVs this basically works with any content. For certain AI functionalities, the screens are based on Microsoft’s Copilot technology.

Hub central

Just like Apple and Google, Samsung also wants to be present in your home with a central hub. Vision AI displays seem to fulfill this role very well. This is how they best support Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, to control and manage your entire smart home via the TV. The Home Insights feature even provides real-time updates about your home environment, such as security alerts and other notifications.

Also worth mentioning is Pet and Family Care, a feature of Vision AI TVs that monitors the behavior of pets and family members. Let’s say if your child falls asleep while watching TV, for example, then the device will automatically dim the room’s lighting and adjust other settings to increase comfort.
