New technologies: CES 2025 will still rhyme with artificial intelligence

Assisted or fully autonomous cars, intelligent refrigerators and household objects, improved glasses… Almost all everyday devices will reveal a new facet of their usefulness thanks to artificial intelligence, according to the products presented on Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). ) in Las Vegas, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to new technologies. AI remains the key word of this 2025 edition, as in the last two years, even if certain promises seem to be repeated over the years.

“Everyone is going to talk about AI,” warns Carolina Milanesi, analyst at Creative Strategies, to AFP. “From fridges to ovens, everyone will mention it, whether there is one or not” in objects or equipment. Objects offering AI in their data calculations or in their practical use will be omnipresent during this new edition of CES, organized from Tuesday to Friday in Las Vegas. This trend is confirmed by the headliners of the event, with a speech by the boss of semiconductor giant Nvidia, Jensen Huang, scheduled for Monday ahead of the show. His company, a specialist in microprocessors and graphics cards, is at the top of the most valuable companies in the world, alongside Apple and Microsoft, thanks to its shift dedicated to generative artificial intelligence (enabling the use of services like ChatGPT or Gemini).

It could announce at the show a new microprocessor, the Blackwell, which would offer better performance for data calculation. Its competitors Intel, Qualcomm and AMD are also expected at CES with their share of announcements. Beyond computer hardware, the new developments will also and above all concern daily life, with a host of start-ups and companies taking advantage of the Las Vegas show to unveil their own application around AI and try to convince investors and the public of their technological advancement.

Among these different projects, we will discover a robot vacuum cleaner with a mechanical arm to tidy up what is lying on the ground, electric rollers to move more quickly, a GPS collar to follow your pet and track possible health problems, a fridge offering recipes based on the foods found there, PC screens that can be adjusted in height depending on your use, connected glasses, including a pair that could help blind people better understand their environment… Certain objects already presented in 2024, with the same promise of improved functionality thanks to AI, also seem to return this year, confirming the difficulty of certain companies in renewing their catalog in the face of ever faster fashion. This is just an overview of the more than 4,000 companies expected in the world gaming capital during this week dedicated to innovation.

Vehicles will also have a big place with in particular Kia, BYD, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota or Hyundai who will be present with a slew of new features for their vehicle, with a touch of artificial intelligence as a bonus. Google’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, Waymo, will also have a place to showcase the vehicles it wants to introduce in major cities around the world. The Chinese manufacturer Xpeng should go even further, by offering a first model of flying vehicles for individuals. The Land Aircraft Carrier, which looks like a giant drone, could thus be marketed as early as 2026, according to the hopes of its manufacturer, and if the public authorities issue the necessary permits.

This indeed remains an uncertainty in view of the recent setbacks of the German manufacturer Volocopter, which was unable to offer its flying taxi service during the Olympic Games due to lack of a permit issued in time. The CES organization hopes to attract more than the 135,000 people who visited the show last year, thanks in particular to numerous events combining technology and entertainment, such as Lenny Kravitz who will give a concert in the Sphere in Las Vegas at a Delta airline event. Black Eyed Peas singer Will.I.Am will also be there for his own company, FYI.AI, which aims to “reimagine radio” around AI. And singer Meghan Trainor is expected at an event from the manufacturer… of MediaLink routers.
