Remember the major CarPlay overhaul unveiled by Apple in June 2022? The Cupertino company promised a revolutionary driving experience, with extensive dashboard integration and customizable interfaces. However, almost three years later, this long-awaited upgrade is still needed.
On its website, Apple still indicates a release planned for 2024. But while we are already in 2025, no compatible vehicle is yet available on the market. The last signs of progress date back to the end of 2023, with previews of Porsche and Aston Martin interfaces.
Manufacturers cautious despite Apple’s progress
According to a Porsche spokesperson, owners of a compatible vehicle from the German brand will have to be content with current CarPlay integration a while longer. A surprising position given that the personalized interface presented more than a year ago already seemed well advanced:

As for Aston Martin, it has been radio silence since the first images from December 2023. No compatible model has not yet been announced. This reluctance on the part of manufacturers could be explained by an imminent launch of the new CarPlay. Apple might have kept them in the know.

A development that continues actively behind the scenes
Despite appearances, Apple has not been idle in recent months. The firm recently filed a protection de ses designs CarPlay in the European Union. In addition, the latest beta of iOS 18.2 includes new elements such as reworked icons for the Media and Climate apps.
All these clues suggest that Apple is fine-tuning the final details before a launch in the coming months. However, we will have to wait until manufacturers decide to offer compatible vehicles to fully benefit from this driving experience of the future. Hopefully the wait will be worth it!
