Since its release in 2000, it was accepted that this participant in this mini-game of Zelda: Majora’s Mask could never win. And yet, 25 years after the launch of the title and after 30,000 tries, these players proved that it was not impossible and managed to achieve a miracle.

Dans The Legend of Zelda : Majora’s Mask, there is a mini-game in which the player can attend a dog race at the Romani Ranch in order to bet on who will win. Each dog has its own hidden statistics and it is commonly believed that the golden dog is the best while the blue dog has the most advantage. In a normal game, it is better to bet on the golden dog which has a greater chance of winning, unlike the blue dog which almost systematically loses. While this fact has been accepted since the game’s release in 2000, players have tried to make the blue dog win the race. 25 years after the title’s launch and after 30,000, they finally achieved it, not without difficulty.

The impossible winner of Zelda Majora’s Mask

On YouTube, Vidya James and Falkush worked together to ensure that the blue dog ultimately won the race in Majora’s Mask. Initially, the two Internet users managed to achieve their goal thanks to a glitch that allowed them to make the race end earlier, allowing any dog to win. After creating a script to repeat the run as many times as necessary, Falkush managed to make the blue dog win after three days and 8,000 attempts. Even if this was the first time in history that this had happened, the two Internet users did not want to be satisfied with this miracle. This time they wanted to know if the blue dog could win without cheating, without using bugs. The response cost them four times as long.

25 years later, a miracle after 30,000 tries

You should know that before a race begins, the game assigns a condition to each dog randomly and without telling the player. This state has a direct influence on the participants’ statistics, increasing or decreasing their chances of winning the race. Knowing this, Falkush sought to ensure that the blue dog was in the best possible condition while the best participants like the golden dog were in poor shape. So, between dog statistics, varying conditions and randomness, Vidya James calculated that there were over a quadrillion different possible races. Taking all that into account, there was bound to be a trial in which the blue dog would end up winning. And they were right.

After weeks of testing, the two Internet users managed to ensure that the blue dog came second three times. And finally, after more than 30,000 tries, Falkush managed to record the first official victory of the blue dog in the entire history of Majora’s Mask. So, when all conditions are met, yes it is possible for the worst participant to win. But hey, for those who want to play the game normally, we advise you to bet on the golden dog.
