What is Baten Kaitos?

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean was released on Gamecube in 2005 in France, and is developed by Monolith Soft, now on the series Xenoblade. You control the Guardian Angel and Kalas, the game’s main character, on a classic quest for revenge and the end of the world. A thousand years ago, Malpercio, an evil god, invades the world, but is taken prisoner by several magicians. The evil god is then hidden in five “ultimate Magnus”, scattered on islands that float in the sky.

Baten Kaito Originsthe second game in the series and a prequel to the first game, was initially released in 2006 on Gamecube, but never in Europe. This Remaster compilation is therefore the opportunity to discover it for the first time.

Is this Baten Kaitos remaster worth it?

If you want to remake or discover this cult Nintendo title, this remastered compilation is an excellent opportunity. Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster offers improved graphics which allow you to appreciate, even today, the incredible artistic direction of the game. The old-fashioned charm of certain settings gives the game a certain charm, without making it too dated. The turn-based gameplay is based on a card and deckbuilding system. You will need to collect attack, defense and healing cards to use during your turn.

The difficulty is not very high, but the game can be frustrating at times. Fortunately, this remaster includes features to disable random encounters or skip combat, as well as an autosave function.
