The annual Apple Pay fundraising campaign, which ran from November 29 to December 8, raised $3 million for the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Here's what we know
The organization (RED) expressed its gratitude to Apple and its customers for their support of healthcare in vulnerable communities. The money raised will be used to finance vital health programs, particularly regarding HIV, among the most vulnerable populations.
Apple organizes this campaign every year on the eve of World AIDS Day, celebrated on December 1. As part of this initiative, the company donates $5 for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, the Apple Store app or in company stores. This encourages customers not only to support the charity, but also to make purchases through a convenient payment system.
In addition to the Apple Pay campaign, the company has a long history of supporting the Global Fund through the sale of (PRODUCT)RED products. A portion of the proceeds from each device sold as part of this series is used to fight epidemics in developing countries. Over the years, Apple has raised more than $250 million, supporting numerous vaccination, testing and treatment programs that save thousands of lives each year.
Despite reducing the number of products available in (PRODUCT)RED, the company continues to support essential health programs that have a significant impact in the fight against the biggest diseases of our time.
