The xAI chatbot, which is also used to generate images, is preparing for its arrival on iPhone. Soon, it will no longer be necessary to install X, ex-Twitter, to use it.
In hindsight, requiring the installation of a social network to talk to Grok, a generative artificial intelligence, is bizarre. However, this is what Elon Musk is proposing with his chatbot, which requires X to be usable.
Soon, Grok (and the company xAI which publishes it) will free itself from the social network. A separate app has appeared on the Australian App Store, suggesting the start of a testing phase.
Grok finally arrives on iPhones
xAI begins testing an application for Grok: the chatbot is available in beta on the App Store. However, it is only downloadable from certain countries, including Australia. The company is expected to roll out its app more widely in the near future.
According to the first screenshots, the application allows you to use the latest model developed by xAI, Grok 2, for free. Grok is an AI-powered assistant designed to be as honest, helpful, and curious as possible. Get answers to all your questions, generate stunning images, and upload photos to better understand your world. With Grok, the universe is in your hands! », We can read on its App Store page.
Another function highlighted: generating completely false images of celebrities, without restriction and with photorealistic renderings. It is also possible to summarize text, rewrite it, etc. The chatbot is also “ connected » to the Internet, that is to say that the answers can be populated with the latest news. xAI also specifies in the description that all interactions are secure.
Grok dreams of becoming a serious competitor at ChatGPT
With this application, Grok frees itself a little from X, to prevent Internet users from confusing the two brands. In addition to this dedicated software, xAI plans to launch Grok.com, the site to use its AI tool. Another element which tends towards a desire to compete with ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity: the free version. It's only since December that Grok has been free, previously an X Premium subscription was required.
With these decisions, Grok will gain in number of users and notoriety. The chatbot is today far behind its competitors. However, in one year, Grok has undergone many changes: a new version of the LLM, an integration into X, the arrival of image generation, etc. Can xAI become a rival to OpenAI and Google?
