It was announced. A storm has been sweeping the Pyrénées-Orientales since late Sunday afternoon. Strong gusts of wind were recorded in the department, and are accompanied by abundant snowfall in the mountains. This Monday, December 23, several roads remain closed to traffic. We take stock.

170km/h de vent

The wind blew (and still blows) in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Peaks of 122km/h were recorded at the end of the weekend near Perpignan and on the Roussillon plain, and up to 170km/h of wind was recorded on the Côte Vermeille, near Cerbère, where departmental road 914 was closed.

The border axis that leads to Spain is prohibited between Cerbère and the Col des Bélitres “for an indefinite period”, specifies the Department.

Snow and blizzard in the mountains

Opposite the Catalan coast, the mountain is also experiencing very bad weather conditions since yesterday evening. The upper cantons experienced a real snowstorm. And the snowflakes are still falling this Monday morning. Consequence, national roads 320 and 22, between Porté-Puymorens and Andorra were closed to traffic.

At the same time, traffic conditions are very difficult in Cerdagne and Capcir, where winter equipment is mandatory on all roads from Fontpedrouse. Be careful if you are traveling in the area.

Elsewhere in the Pyrénées-Orientales, it also snowed on the road to Col d'Ares in Vallespir, south road of mantlet in the Canigó sector or between Mosset and the Col de Jau. Equipment is mandatory on these three axes.
