Last month, OpenAI unveiled a significant update to its ChatGPT app for macOS, allowing the tool to read content displayed on the screen in certain apps. The company is now rolling out a new update that expands support for Apple Notes as well as other third-party apps.
What’s new in ChatGPT for macOS
According to OpenAI, the latest version of ChatGPT for macOS now allows compatibility with even more third-party applications. For example, the tool can now read content from Apple Notes, Notion and Quip. Additionally, the list of supported apps is growing to include BBEdit, Android Studio, AppCode, and more. Here are all the new applications compatible with ChatGPT on Mac:
- New FDI: BBEdit, MatLab, Nova, Script Editor, and TextMate;
- Forks de VS Code : VSCode Insiders, VSCodium, Cursor, et WindSurf;
- IDEs Jetbrains : Android Studio, AppCode, CLion, DataGrip, GoLand, IntelliJ IDEA, PHPStorm, PyCharm, RubyMine, RustRover, et WebStorm;
- Applications terminales : Prompt et Warp;
- Productivity apps: Apple Notes, Notion, et Quip.
When this feature was introduced, it was only compatible with Apple’s iTerm 2, Terminal, TextEdit, VS Code, and Xcode. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to read code from an Xcode project and suggest improvements without having to manually copy and paste the code into the ChatGPT application. It can even read content from multiple applications simultaneously, which is very convenient for working with development tools.
For privacy reasons, users can control when and which applications ChatGPT can read at any time. “You have the same control over how this data is stored or processed as you do with anything else in your conversation history,” OpenAI says.
Integration with third-party applications is reserved for subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu. No indication is given regarding the possible availability of this feature for users of the free version of ChatGPT.
You can download the ChatGPT application for macOS from the OpenAI website. It is accessible for free, while ChatGPT Plus subscribers can log in and access their entire account. Note that the recently released macOS 15.2 allows users to interact with ChatGPT directly through Siri.
