In response, Grinding Gear Games studio has made multiple adjustments. The last patch of the year for Path of Exile 2, deployed on December 18, 2024, therefore brings substantial modifications aimed at reducing the difficulty of the game, particularly noted in the endgame content. Hoping that this will allow these soothing comments describing GGG’s game as “the Dark Souls of Hack’n’slash”.
Among the notable adjustments, the patch removes elemental resistance penalties that were previously applied at Tier 6 and Tier 11 or higher, thus standardizing difficulty across the entire endgame. In addition, critical hits inflicted by monsters have their damage bonus reduced by 40%, thus reducing the lethality of certain enemies.
The patch also introduces adjustments to the roguelike dungeon “Trial of the Sekhemas”, making this trial less punishing and more accessible. Additionally, the cost of resetting skill points has been reduced by 40-50%, especially at higher levels. Combined with the fact that several skills have been buffed, including bow attacks, bone and chaos spells, and shield-related abilities, this should all help entice players to try out more different builds.
Despite these adjustments intended to soften the difficulty curve, GGG wanted to declare that its desire to offer a significant challenge remains very present, even if the studio will have to find a delicate balance between accessibility for new players and depth for veterans. All this without compromising the demanding essence of the franchise.
