Spacewalk Details
NASA will livestream a spacewalk scheduled for Thursday, December 19, during which two Roscosmos cosmonauts will work outside the International Space Station. Coverage begins at 9:45 a.m. ET on NASA+ and can be viewed on various platforms, including social media. The actual spacewalk is expected to begin around 10:10 a.m. and last approximately six and a half hours.
Spacewalker Profiles
Expedition 72 crew members Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner will depart from the Poisk module. Their tasks include installing a set of experiments designed to monitor celestial x-ray sources, new electrical connector patch panels, and salvaging several experiments for disposal. Additionally, they will reposition a control panel for the European robotic arm, which is attached to the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module. Inside the station, Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexsandr Gorbunov will pilot the robotic arm during the spacewalk.
Historical context
This is the second spacewalk for Ovchinin and the first for Vagner. Ovtchinine will don a red-striped Orlan spacesuit, while Vagner will wear a blue-striped suit. This spacewalk, designated as the 63rd spacewalk of Roscosmos, will be the 272nd carried out as part of the assembly, maintenance and modernization of the International Space Station.
