Many Surfaces ready to emerge
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 were flagship products for the launch of the Snapdragon X Series, and more generally of the Copilot+ systems. For those who like the Surface ranges but not the Snapdragons, Microsoft will launch models armed with Lunar Lake processors within a few weeks.
The information comes directly from Zac Bowden, editor-in-chief of Windows Centralwho cites his own sources. That said, the release of Surface systems using the latest generation of Core laptops is not really a scoop. In mid-October, a Surface Laptop 7 equipped with a Core Ultra 7 268V was spotted on the Chinese online sales site Goofish.
Our colleague, however, gives a more precise idea of what awaits us. He cites Surface and Surface Pro laptops equipped with a Lunar Lake processor, but also a Surface Laptop Studio equipped with a Snapdraon X Plus and a new Surface device equipped with an 11-inch screen.
For the new versions of Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, the point to remember is therefore the use of Lunar Lake chips rather than Snapdragon X. Like those from Qualcomm, the latest generation Intel processors qualify as Copilot+ PCs. For customers, they will therefore offer a more traditional alternative to Arm chips. In addition, these Lunar Lake models will inherit an anti-glare screen. Zac Bowden also sees 5G connectivity for the Surface Laptop.
These new Surface devices will in principle be Microsoft’s first Copilot+ PCs powered by Intel CPUs. They will arrive in the first quarter of 2025, still according to the publication of Windows Central.
More uncertain systems
Regarding the Surface Laptop Studio, the current model uses a Raptor Lake processor, aka a 13th generation Core. A series since supplanted by Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake. Microsoft is therefore considering an update, always with the aim of adding the Copilot+ label to its machine. The source specifies, however, that it has no knowledge of the chosen processor. Three options are on the table: Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake), Ryzen AI 300, or Snapdragon Series X. Unless Microsoft waits until the arrival of chips planned for 2025, such as Panther Lake.
A few words about the Surface device equipped with an 11-inch screen. Zac Bowden presents it as a “a hybrid of Surface Go and Laptop Go that uses premium materials and components” equipped with a Snapdragon X Plus. He adds that these are mostly rumors at this stage, and that the hypothesis of a stillborn project cannot be ruled out. Still in the rumor mill, the source also mentions a new Surface Dock station in preparation, but confesses to having nothing more concrete to share about it.
Let’s end with the calendar, again described as uncertain. If Zac Bowden therefore expects the Surface Pro and the new Surface Laptop to be released during the first quarter of 2025, the rest of the products mentioned would land between “spring and autumn” of the same year.
