Naoki Hamaguchi is a big name in the video game landscape: after joining Square Enix in 2006 and working on numerous Final Fantasy games, he gradually climbed the ranks to become director on FF7 Rebirth. His real wish? Let his games be played everywhere, even on Xbox.

More platforms, more happiness

After being named co-director on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, in charge of game design and programming, Naoki Hamaguchi was finally named director on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, second part of the trilogy of remakes of the legendary Final Fantasy VII. Released at the start of the year, the game has attracted a lot of attention and has established itself as one of the best PS5 exclusives. The opportunity to recall the solid understanding between Square Enix and Sony, since Final Fantasy VII Remake, but also Final Fantasy XVI were first released only on PlayStation.

However, Square Enix has recently slowly begun a multi-support policy. Final Fantasy XIV has finally been released on Xbox for example, just like Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. This is still not the case for FF7, but Naoki Hamaguchi still continues to give a little hope during an interview with GamesRadar.

As for Final Fantasy 7, we can't say anything at the moment, but I really want to bring Final Fantasy 7 and the Remake series to as many players as possible. So we want to create an environment where more players can play our games in the future, and we want to look in that direction.

“Excellent hardware”

Selon Hamaguchi, Square Enix is not the only player to open up to the outside world: it is the trend of the entire industry and for once, the publisher wants to follow the trend in a fairly legitimate way so as not to be left behind.

I think this goes beyond Final Fantasy VII. This is truly a game-changer in the industry. I think in this day and age we feel right now that the industry has changed in terms of platforms and environments, in which people play games.

It's so much more diverse now and I think that's probably why our CEO, Mr. Takashi Kiryu, made the decision to move further in the direction of cross-platform – that's just the direction it's going. the industry.

By the way, Hamaguchi even allows himself a little declaration of love for the Xbox Series.

This is just a personal opinion, but I have an Xbox myself. I think it's excellent hardware. I like the Xbox.

It remains to be seen if and when FF7 will arrive at Microsoft.
