Unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2024 without revealing the slightest snippet of gameplay, Year 117: Pax Romana is currently in development at Ubisoft Mainz, where the management title received a week of playtests internal in September to adjust the final direction. The French publisher is optimistic about progress. The official blog mentions that a first version of the diplomatic conflicts has been implemented while the islands and territories to be annexed have received a heavy coat of graphic polish. So it's time to take a look.
Today, Ubisoft Mainz unveils two iconic provinces of the Roman Empire: Albion and Lazio. This treacherous Albion is not only the homophone of a former Gamekult journalist, but also the current United Kingdom, with its rainy territories and large marshy areas. “ It's the strangest place in the Roman Empire. It's damp, foggy, full of swamps – no civilized Roman would want to get lost there. You will find new challenges there, but also new opportunities in contact with the local people. », explains creative director Manuel Reinher.
As for Lazio, it is quite simply the province of western Italy where Rome is based. “ We took great inspiration from the beautiful Amalfi Coast and the Bay of Naples. We wanted to create the warm and welcoming atmosphere ofAnno. A place that perfectly illustrates the era. There is sunshine, a gentle breeze – even the ancient Romans loved to spend their vacations there. » You can admire the cliffs and lavender fields in the gallery below.
As for further development, the teamYear 117: Pax Romana intends to communicate more often in 2025 to begin the release of the game. The studio is currently working on the music, the different portraits, the interface as well as the fires which will disrupt our expansion. Ubisoft mentions that other official blog posts will be coming soon to remain transparent about development.
Year 117: Pax Romana will be released in 2025. It will be available day one on Steam.
