A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Koblenz (AG). “For reasons still unknown, a 20-year-old motorist probably found himself in the opposite lane, shortly before reaching a bridge crossing the Aare,” the cantonal police communicated on Wednesday morning. The young man was unable to avoid a postbus traveling in the opposite direction. The two vehicles then collided head-on and the heavy goods vehicle left the road. The vehicle even found itself on the verge of tipping into the watercourse, bordering it.
“The impact was so violent that the driver found himself trapped in the post bus,” police said. Firefighters had to extricate the injured man. Two helicopters also intervened to transport the young driver of the car and a child who was in the bus to hospital, both seriously injured. “The seven other passengers on the bus were fortunately only slightly injured and were transported to hospital by ambulance,” police said.
The two vehicles, meanwhile, suffered “immense damage”. An investigation was opened to determine the exact causes of the accident.
