In 21 years of existence, Call of Duty has never really left the landscape. Between main games, remakes, service games and secondary productions, there has always been a title in the spotlight. If, overall, the series offers a high level of production, certain opuses have been forgotten for good reasons.
Call of Duty: a juggernaut that is not running out of steam
We are not going to repeat history, you know it. Call of Duty was born in 2003 within the Infinity Ward studio, created by veterans of the FPS and in particular of Medal of Honor: Allied Landing. It only took the license a few years to establish itself and become the king of wargaming, where Medal of Honor was unable to make the grade. Call of Duty therefore found itself facing Battlefield, but never deviated from its path. The different episodes were more or less well received, but rare are the opuses that are not at least good games. With its typically spectacular campaigns, iconic multiplayer modes and now battle royale, “COD” continues to reign supreme and sell millions of copies every time.
From now on, and this is not a detail, Call of Duty is a franchise in the Xbox galaxy following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. It was even at the heart of the debates during the takeover, with competitors fearing that Microsoft would make this license exclusive. The brand has promised not to do so, at least not right away, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 arrived almost everywhere a few weeks ago. The main games in the Call of Duty license are: 21, but we must not forget the 7 mobile versions and the 12 so-called “secondary” games. It was by looking at the latter that we remembered that certain games were very far from the standards set by Call of Duty or Battlefield.

The forgotten Call of Duty… For good reasons
You may have forgotten it but in 2012, on PS Vitaplayers were also entitled to an episode. It was Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified and if you have no memory of it, that's normal: when it came out, it was demolished by players and critics. Today, and it hasn't changed for years, this title has a Metascore of 33 out of 100 and a measly 5/10 on the players' side. In our columns, Dinowan had granted him the terrible grade of 3/20. In its test at the time, the criticisms began with the single-player campaign, which was completed in less than an hour with missions finishing in 5 to 8 minutes.
The levels are narrow, no relevant script brings the action to life and the AI does not create any illusions for a single second. The multiplayer could have saved the whole thing by using the usual features but it seems that at the time, it was almost impossible to play. Between untimely disconnections, freezes and other crashesnothing seemed spared to our former colleague during his test. Let's not forget a cataclysmic handling, and here you have one of the worst, if not THE worst Call of Duty released to date. To understand, you need to know that Nihilistic Software, the development studio, has not had only a few months to develop this experience. A disastrous production, which ended shortly after with the closure of the American structure.
