Rumors continue to multiply around Nintendo's future console, the Switch 2. A post on Weibo, now deleted, would have revealed the release window for the machine. We take stock in this article.
The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be talked about. The console is on the lips of enthusiasts and fans of the Japanese firm. Although its official name has still not been communicated, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Big N, told Reuters that the announcement should take place before the end of the current fiscal year. The Switch 2 will therefore be revealed before March 31, 2025. But the launch could take place sooner than we think.
A message on Weibo
If everyone wishes to give their opinion on the matter, certain rumors are starting to gain momentum on the Chinese social network Weibo and the Famiboards site. According to rumors, the console could be announced as early as January and would even be marketed as early as March 2025. It was a message from an Internet user on Weibo, since deleted, that attracted attention. “I got some information from a source who was right on several occasions. He revealed the Switch OLED model, Mario & Luigi Brothership, August Indie World, Nintendo Partner Showcase and more. The announcement will take place in January 2025 and it will be released in March”, we can thus learn.
Be careful though because these are assumptions and rumors. None of this information has been confirmed by Nintendo. However, the timing of this announcement seems to coincide perfectly with the end of the fiscal year. The information is therefore at the rumor stage but the diagram seems similar to the first console. Indeed, the Nintendo Switch was handled by journalists in January 2017 before being officially released in March 2017.
Future technical details
At this stage, certain rumors allow us to get an idea of the characteristics of the console. Officially, we already know that it will be backwards compatible. “Further information on this, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date”, affirmed the president of Nintendo. It would also support up to 4K resolution, have magnetic Joy-Con controllers with additional buttons, and support AAA games at launch.
