Nintendo has still not presented its new console, but is slowly starting to distill information through the publication of its financial statements and calls to investors. The rumors continue to resonate, this time with elements around the launch.
Nintendo Switch “2”: the manufacturer always sets the pace
Nintendo has promised: its new console will be presented before the end of the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2025. The manufacturer therefore has time ahead of it, and it is a safe bet that it will not will do nothing that could harm Switch sales during the end-of-year holidays. At the moment, the amount of reliable information on what is conveniently called Switch 2 is very small.
We know, by Shuntaro Furukawa's own admission, that we can consider it as a console in continuity with the previous one, but also that it will be backwards compatible with Switch games and that the Nintendo account can be transferred as is. We can also give credit to the information coming from semiconductor foundries, which outline the technical contours of the machine: 8-inch LCD screen, Joy-Con with magnetic attachment, presence of an SSD. The rest are just more or less solid rumors which intersect with the most serious information or launch new leads.
For the moment, it is clear that Nintendo is keeping its new console perfectly secret, and we imagine that the marketing department is pulling their hair out to make the launch a success. So think: it will be necessary to succeed a machine which, by the time the news comes out, will probably have passed the mark of 150 million units sold. Missteps are not an option, and Nintendo knows from the Wii U what bad communication costs.

6.8 million Switch 2s at launch? Plausible, but…
At the start of the year, the analysis firm Omdia indicated that Nintendo would consider producing and shipping 10 million copies of its new console during its first fiscal year. Nothing really allows us to confirm this at the moment, but the data used is reliable, just like Omdia. The number is therefore consistent, without being official. On Reddit Famiboards, a user now known for creating a realistic sketch of the “Switch 2” posted a coded message implying that Nintendo has defined the number of consoles that will be shipped worldwide for launch.
We know that the manufacturer wants to avoid shortages at all costs and leave no space for scalpers. In his message, this user indicates that the firm would have planned to ship 2.5 times more consoles than in 2017 for the launch of the Switch. Nintendo having sold 2.74 million Switches in March 2017, we would therefore expect around 6.85 million “Switch 2” on the shelves.
Here again, we must be very careful, and this is the main objective of this news: the number is entirely coherent and plausible but, at present, there is nothing to confirm or deny this figure . As always, information has several forms: official information, disseminated by those concerned at the appropriate time, information unearthed by journalists from their sources, and rumors. This may make sense, but it should only serve as a point of reference.
