Despite a now well-established design, the Fold range is being renewed with a Galaxy Z Fold 5, of which Samsung has revised the hinge that allows it to be folded. An expected change which should not mask the timidity of the improvements made elsewhere to the smartphone.

Points forts

  • New teardrop hinge.

  • Two screens that are still excellent.

  • Good performance.

  • Good photo section (despite the presence of the same defects as those of the Galaxy S23).

  • Norme IPX8.

Weak points

  • Still charging a little slow.

  • S-Pen still not provided.

If the formula is cliché, it is clear that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 constitutes much more of an evolution than a revolution. Samsung brings it a new hinge; this is an undeniable and appreciable gain, which allows you to use the smartphone with a complete feeling of security. But for the rest, as effective as it may be, notably thanks to its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and its complete technical sheet, this smartphone lacks a grain of madness. If its acquisition is not recommended for anyone who already has a Z Fold 4, it is nevertheless convincing, and will satisfy those who wish to try the Fold format, or swap an old generation for an up-to-date terminal .

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).

An alternative

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a successful smartphone. Samsung is nevertheless taking few risks, because it is not renewing the design of its folding clamshell smartphone and is improving it in small steps. Its screens are brighter, it is (very slightly) more powerful than the Galaxy Z Flip 5, its photo section is a little more precise, but above all it is its convincing autonomy and a particularly refined software section that we remember here. However, this smartphone will leave Galaxy Z Flip 5 owners wanting more.
