The Microsoft Photos application is slow and Microsoft understands that. The Windows editor has found a somewhat controversial solution to resolve this problem: launch the application as soon as your computer starts.
With Windows 11 updates, Microsoft Photos launches slower than before. A problem when you want to quickly view your vacation photos, or want to crop a document to send as quickly as possible. This is why Microsoft has found a solution, reported by Windows Latest.
Microsoft Photos has changed, for better and for worse
In fact, in its latest updates (still being rolled out), Microsoft Photos on Windows 11 has gone from a universal app (UWP) to a Windows App SDK (just like File Explorer), which allows you to be used with other Windows application development tools. In fact, it uses the OneDrive web interface.
Microsoft made this change to bring greater web integration as well as improved performance. Which turned out to be wrong: for example Windows Latest finds that Microsoft Photos is three times slower. You can even see an application loading screen, just to see an image.
A Windows application that can launch when your PC starts up
In its latest update, Microsoft Photos has added an option called “ Performance ”, which is not enabled by default. This feature allows Microsoft Photos to launch in the background when Windows starts up to improve its performance. This greatly reduces the launch time of the image viewer.
We can also expect that, if the tests are conclusive, the option will be enabled by default on Windows. For now, it is only available to members of the Canary channel of the Windows Insider program. The problem is that it can consume resources in the background, even when you are not using the application.
