The Cupertino company would, unsurprisingly, be considering developing a subscription for its AI functionalities grouped under the name Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is expected to become increasingly important for Apple in the coming years. This is what is being said Bloomberg in the latest Power On Newsletter.

Like Samsung, whose Galaxy S24 Ultra offered relatively little hardware development and relied more on Galaxy AI to create the event, Apple would count on Apple Intelligence to push its future iPhone 16.

The Apple firm should present its latest smartphone as the best entry point to Apple Intelligence. This makes Apple’s decision not to release Apple Intelligence in Europe, at least initially, in order to avoid the DMA all the more astonishing. Remember that for the moment, only the iPhone 15 Pro is eligible.

The same goes for the manufacturer’s other products: future M4 Macs should strongly emphasize their ability to run Apple Intelligence thanks to a much more powerful NPU than on the M3 chip.

A subscription-based strategy

To compensate for increasingly less interesting hardware innovations, Apple is increasingly turning to services. According to Bloomberg, The logical next step would be for Apple to eventually monetize its suite of AI functionalities, currently offered free of charge. The publication mentions an “Apple Intelligence+” with a monthly payment, but it is also possible to imagine an integration with Apple One, as Google does with Gemini Advanced integrated into Google One.

What other AI besides ChatPGT?

Especially since Apple should ultimately generate revenue in another way with AI: via its partners. Indeed, if the apple brand has developed its own LLM to carry out a whole bunch of functions in iOS 18, it has also relied on OpenAI and its ChatGPT for more advanced functions.

And it was made clear at WWDC 2024 that Apple plans to eventually allow other generative AIs to join its ecosystem. According to Bloomberg Still, some names can already be mentioned: Meta would not be part of the adventure, but Google and Anthropic would be in discussions. Anthropic is a company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, insisting in its marketing and branding on the security of its products.
