We have entered an era where wireless is omnipresent and where manufacturers are doubling their efforts to “simulate” exceptional sound quality. While some manufacturers are more or less able to stick to it, the “audiophile” segment continues to swear by cables and rightly so. After a range of diverse and varied tests with cordless devices, here is my opinion on the Sennheiser HD 620S. Closed headphones, available only with a cable, which are intended for sound enthusiasts, entertainment lovers, but above all for those who want a product that borders on perfection. Absolute sobriety

Sennheiser has never disappointed us in terms of manufacturing quality. Here, the HD 620S is no exception to the rule. The finishes are exemplary, the materials used exceptional, nothing is left to chance. After several weeks of use, I have never experienced any discomfort, even after ten hours on my head.

Sennheiser has gone all out and been very generous with the foam padding. We therefore end up with very thick ear loops which naturally insulate well, as well as a head support which is never felt.

From the outside, the Sennheiser HD 620S honors sobriety. However, personally, I do not approve of the exterior rendering offered on the two headphones. There is a “pearl” effect which is more reminiscent of tree sap squirted on the plastic rather than a beautiful rain effect.. A point that falls into the category of tastes and colors.

To finish on the design part, note that the earphones do not rotate. Obviously, as the headset has no buttons, there is no risk of accidentally pressing something when placing the device on your shoulders.

Pure clarity

It’s difficult to describe the first moments with the Sennheiser HD 620S in any other way. I spend the vast majority of time using wireless headphones (Astro A50X) which offers excellent sound reproduction. But this 620S is on a whole other level. The sound can be soft, loud, brutal, melodious, whatever it evokes for you, he will always be fair. Nothing is artificial here, just like the dress of the headphones, the manufacturer offers sound quality close to perfection.

I want to point out that I used the headset on my PC as well as two different phones. On the occasion of a trip to a friend’s house, I was able to connect the HD 620S to an external sound card. The rendering was again on a completely different level, but I will come back to that just below.

Perfect in all situations

A wired headset for listening to music? Playing video games? Watching a movie? Talking to friends or colleagues? Yes, the Sennheiser HD620S will fit anywhere. After two long months I can’t find any area where it is lacking. The only criticism I can make is its somewhat “low” volume, let me explain. At the beginning of my use, I did not notice this detail, it was when I tried the product on an external sound card that I understood. With good support, everything is increased tenfold.

The bass is even more pronounced, the treble is even more precise, the volume goes even further, but the best part of all this is that the sound reproduction remains as homogeneous as ever.

You don’t need external support to take full advantage of this headset, but you have to admit that you will enjoy it much better. And especially, it will be used to its full capacity.

A wired headset to own

There are sometimes reviews that also do without flourishes and long tirades, just like the Sennheiser HD 620S, I don’t have much to say as it is so exceptional. In the purest style of wired offerings, it is easily a step above what wireless offers. Better still, here the manufacturer has complete control over its approach and its technologies. If you still have devices that are capable of accommodating a jack connector and you don’t necessarily need a microphone, then this is the headset you need. Is this the ultimate helmet? In any case, it is the most efficient device that I have had the chance to try in its segment.

Unfortunately, there remains the price, count on CHF 330.- to grab the grail. A significant amount, but as you know, quality has a price.
