Sony has one of the worst reputations among Android OEMs when it comes to providing timely updates for its Xperia smartphones. The same goes for ongoing software support, even for the Xperia 1 VI. For comparison, Google and Samsung currently promise Android updates for seven years.

On the other hand, Sony will provide three operating system updates for the Xperia 1 VI compared to two for its predecessor. Recently, however, Sony added Wi-Fi 7 connectivity to its latest flagship, which is unusual for a smartphone maker, let alone one with as poor a track record as Sony’s. It appears this improvement is a warning sign for the Xperia 1 VI rather than an aberration.

So, the update is currently exclusive to the UK. For reference, Android 15 is expected to arrive on other variants as 69.1.A.2.78, which is an over-the-air (OTA) download of less than 1 GB. Please see the image below and the site Sony website for more details.
