A new range is entering Origine, the GTS range. The mission of this GTS range is to make the world of high modulus carbon and all the know-how associated with it accessible.
At a time when all developments are focused on ever stronger, higher, faster and ever more expensive, with the GTS range, Origine has decided to focus on how to develop bikes with an accessible price positioning but whose behavior and reliability rival the most high-end manufacturing.
The GTS range is available on the brand's two flagship models, Axxome for the road and Graxx for gravel.
On these 2 types of bikes, the work with carbon fiber is essential, because these bikes are efficient without artifice, the technicality of manufacturing and the draping are the key to this result.
All bikes in the Origine range are made from High Modulus (HM) or Ultra High Modulus (UHM) fiber for the GTR ranges.
It was out of the question to offer a bike that was not made at least with HM fiber. Because yes, the GTS range is a pure engineering product, a real technical challenge to use an HM fiber with simpler molding and counter-molding processes than the GTO and GTR ranges, while maintaining behavior that will tickle the GTO series .
GTS / GTO, what are the differences?
For the GTS range, Origine engineers have developed a simpler and less expensive molding technique than the GTO range. The main challenge was to match the performance of the GTO range to 90% while maintaining this efficiency, ease and reliability which have made the GTO and GTR series so famous.
The most noticeable difference will be felt in comfort. The brand wants to be transparent and does not want to sell you a cheaper bike but just as fantastic in every way as a bike from the higher range. It is difficult to match the level of comfort of the GTO series according to the numerous feedback from customers and the press. The Axxome GTS and the Graxx GTS are still among the most comfortable bikes on the market.
Origine has allowed itself this bias because today the width of the tire sections makes it possible to maintain an almost identical level of comfort from one model to another.
So here are some equivalences:
- To obtain the comfort of an Axxome GTO shod with 28mm tires, you will have to upgrade to 30mm on the GTS (knowing that the maximum section is 35mm)
- To obtain the comfort of a Graxx GTO shod with a 35mm tire, you will have to upgrade to 38mm on a GTS. Beyond 700×40 the difference will be almost imperceptible, it will play out at 0.3 bar of inflation difference.
- The other difference will be the weight of the frame with 11% more weight for the Graxx GTS compared to the GTO, 8% for the Axxome GTS frame compared to the GTO frame.
A specific construction
You already know the Unique Matrix Layup from the GTR range, the EPS molding from the GTO range.
To these molding techniques is added SPS molding, internal counter molds compact the fiber over the entire length of the 3 tubes of the front triangle.
The difference with EPS molding is that on SPS molding the counter molds are placed over the entire length of the 3 tubes of the front triangle, for EPS molding the counter molds are placed on the entire front triangle including in the socket and the angles.
To achieve a level of performance almost equivalent to the GTO with EPS molding, the brand played on the positioning and construction of the HM carbon fiber drapes. A saving factor which makes it possible to offer these GTS series is also that they use exactly the same geometries and the same molds as the Axxome 3 and Graxx 3. The design office therefore did not have to work on these 2 points to benefit from all the excellence developed for the GTR and GTO series marketed 18 months ago now.
The brand simply takes up the concept of transmission manufacturers who allow more accessible ranges to benefit from technologies developed for high-end groups when the latter evolve. It is common to find old Dura-Ace developments in new Ultegra groups for example. This shows that the adage “it was better before” cannot apply to all situations.
Configuration
As with the rest of the entire range, the GTS series benefits from the Origin configuration.
In order to best guide you in your choice, Origine has specially selected components with the best performance/reliability/price ratio.
The brand has therefore established a selection of components consistent with the state of mind it wishes to give to these GTS series, accessibility and performance.
You will be able to choose your components from a pre-selected list, your favorite color from 20 shades and most importantly you will be able to adapt the bike to your measurements. You will no longer have to endure the standards that certain product managers impose on you, everyone has a unique body shape, everyone has the right to ride a bike adapted to their measurements.
We cannot imagine imposing a 44cm handlebar on a 1.90m climber just because he rides an XL, or a 40 handlebar on a 1.65m rugby player.
When you order your Origine, you have directly and at no extra cost gears adapted to your riding, cranks to your size, a stem that you will not need to exchange, a handlebar of the right width, the choice of saddle which suits you best. All while controlling your budget and with a color that you like.
