The “Interpreter” tool will allow Teams users to translate their words in real time. But that’s not all since this tool is also capable of reproducing a speaker’s voice.
Microsoft has unveiled “Interpreter”, a new tool for Teams. And suffice to say that we are facing something that is simply revolutionary. The reason? “Interpreter” allows Teams users to translate their words in real time during meetings. This new feature is capable of translating into 9 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
But this tool is not limited to “simply” doing real-time translation since it also clones your voice in real time. The timbre and tone of your voice will thus be duplicated during a meeting, alongside real-time translation.
Microsoft also specifies that no biometric data will be recorded and that the “Interpreter” tool will not add feelings beyond what is “naturally present” in a voice.
A Microsoft spokesperson also explains to TechCrunch that: « The interpreter is designed to reproduce the speaker’s message as closely as possible without adding assumptions or extraneous information ».
A demonstration video revealed by Microsoft allows us to see the effectiveness of the “Interpreter” functionality.
Please note that only Microsoft 365 subscribers will be able to benefit from the “Interpreter” functionality. Its deployment is planned for the beginning of 2025. If we do not yet have a precise date regarding the launch, one thing is (almost) certain: the language barrier should fall in the relatively near future.
