The current geopolitical context, marked by the war between Ukraine and Russia, has heavily affected the video game industry, in particular the GSC Game World studio, creator of Stalker. Despite these difficulties, development of the game continues, and Stalker 2 is finally preparing to be released on consoles and PC.
A wartime outing
STALKER is a series of cult video games developed by the Ukrainian studio GSC Game World, started in 2007 with STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyll. This game immerses players in a fictional Exclusion Zone around Chernobyl, where supernatural phenomena, mutants and hostile factions coexist in an oppressive atmosphere. Blending FPS, survival and open-world exploration, it is acclaimed for its immersive atmosphere and non-linear storytelling. The long-awaited sequel, STALKER 2: The Heart of Chornobyl, promises to expand this captivating universe with modern graphics and even more advanced game mechanics thanks to Unreal Engine 5. And after years of waiting and doubt upon its publication, the latter is preparing to arrive here and in particular on the game pass.
Release date and time
It must be said that the current geopolitical context, and more particularly the war between Ukraine and Russia, has not helped the video game industry. Stalker's studio, GSC Game Worldwas particularly affected because it is located at Kyiv. With the Russian bombings, the team had to flee to the Czech Republic. By ensuring their security, they have also delayed the development of the FPS, which is about to finally launch on consoles and PC. We tell you more about its launch on Game Pass.
The question of a video game's release time is often asked closer to its launch, as many players want to access it as soon as possible. As a general rule, outings take place at midnight or at the end of the day, around 7 p.m. However, for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the developers announced that the game will be available a little earlier, at 5 p.m., November 20. This release time was confirmed by the developers on social media, including for Game Pass users, although no further details were given. This means that, if you have already pre-downloaded the game on certain platforms, you will be able to start playing as early as 5 p.m. And yes, you read correctly! Pre-downloads are already available. This is excellent news to save time, especially when you consider the requirements of PC configurations and the 160 GB to download… The game will however not be available on PS5 at launch, but could get there in the future.
