Samsung is reportedly working on a new option to protect your applications. Entitled App Lock, it would bring the manufacturer closer to its competitors at Apple.

User privacy seems to be at the heart of tech manufacturers’ concerns. If there are already tools at Samsung to protect its applications, the Korean manufacturer would like to go further with an option called “App Lock”. The latter could be introduced in One UI 7.

They see me, they see me more

A surprising choice for anyone who already has a Samsung Galaxy. Topped with a One UI overlay, this version of Android by Samsung already offers a system capable of protecting your applications. Entitled “Secure folder”, this function allows you to protect your photos, videos, files or even applications by placing them in a folder which is only accessible via an access code or biometric lock.

What could “App Lock” be used for?

“Secure Folder” asks you for upstream configuration with associated security settings, it creates a copy of the locked application and leaves two available on the device. “App Lock” could allow you to hide apps from prying eyes by activating just one option. We would end up with a simplification of uses.

This new feature could draw its inspiration from Apple. Presented during the 2024 edition of WWDC, Apple announced with iOS 18 the possibility of accessing or even hiding an application via Face ID. An interesting feature if you have to lend your smartphone and you don’t want the person to have access to all of your data. Notifications from hidden applications are also cut off with this second layer of authentication. A functionality that could already be found to access certain Notes or Photos spaces.

According to 9to5GoogleSamsung could launch “App Lock” in its Android 15 update with One UI 7. From Samsung, this information has not yet been confirmed.
