Right of refusal
Edith Moreau, our OHS advisor, explained in detail what employees’ right of refusal is, emphasizing the scope of this right in the context of the working conditions of teaching staff.
Membership card
The president, Jean-François Guilbault addressed the issue of the card leading, thanks to a QR code, to registration to obtain the membership card. This is a new tool that your delegates will have to help you obtain your membership card. Moreover, a reminder was given about the registration procedure.
Assurance collective
Sandra announced an increase in group insurance premiums which will take place in January, specifying the impacts for members. In particular, the precise increases that we can expect. She also gave indications to pass on so that we can all work together to reduce the cost of group insurance.
Women’s food drive and initiatives against violence
Sandra also spoke about the Guignolée des femmes and the “12 days for the elimination of violence against women” event. She transmitted the invitation from the Status of Women Committee for the AGIR ensemble conference which will take place as part of this campaign.
Local negotiation
An update on local negotiations was made with the aim of reaching an agreement with the employer side. Moreover, the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 14. Until then, Dominic Hébert was proud to announce that an agreement has been reached on the extension of force majeure leave.
Participation committee
- A request to open a second 4-year-old kindergarten class was made, but it was refused by the employer despite the needs indicating that it would be necessary.
- Verifications are underway regarding the materials and training for the “Québécois Culture and Citizenship” courses. The Union wants to ensure that teachers have everything they need in this regard.
- There have been discussions about automatic handover. These must continue.
- Dominic also took stock of specific educational projects in the Salaberry section.
- Absence of TES: the suggestion of hiring PEH to compensate for the lack of TES was discussed, but discussions with the employer will have to continue. There is still an opening to move forward with the union suggestion.
Draft school calendar 2025-2026
There were discussions about the placement of the teaching days gained in the latest agreement. An electronic consultation will be sent to all members to collect their opinions because currently, it is the employer who decides when staff work their days at the location of their choice. This is problematic since the days chosen by the CSSVT coincide with the return from summer break or after the holiday vacations, two times when staff prefer to be at school to set up the class and coordinate with colleagues.
Don’t forget to participate in the consultation by November 29, 2024! If you are subscribed to the newsletter, you have received the link to participate in your personal email.
Moreover, the union proposals are:
- Increase the minimum from 25% to 50% of the total pedagogical days for which the location for carrying out the work is determined by the teacher.
- Increase the minimum of 20% to 40% of the total educational days planned in the school calendar for which the content will be determined by teachers.
- Move an educational day to March 27, 2026 for the Champlain Union Congress. This should not be an educational day whose location and content are determined by teachers.
Development Committee
A reminder was made concerning the rules and procedures for the development of teaching staff, emphasizing the importance of this committee for professional development.
