According to what looks like an online survey form aimed at people who are likely to be interested in pre-orders, we understand that the new S series smartphones, therefore the Galaxy S25, will be announced on January 5, 2025. Remember that the Galaxy S24 series was made official on January 17, 2024. If it is confirmed, this early release would mark a strategic change for Samsung, which thus anticipates the usual presentation period of its flagships. This decision could be motivated by the desire to maintain its lead in the high-end smartphone market, in the face of increasingly active competition at the start of the year.
Indeed, the high-end phones were officially announced in advance compared to last year, in particular because of, or thanks to, the arrival on the market of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which many models have adopted.
The document mentions a 10% discount for customers participating in the survey and reporting potential problems or expectations for the South Korean brand’s next high-end models.
What configurations for the Galaxy S25?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra, the spearhead of this new series, should benefit from significant developments. The device would feature a slightly larger 6.86-inch screen, compared to 6.79 inches for its predecessor, accompanied by thinner bezels measuring 2.3mm thick. The photo part will also see notable improvements with the introduction of a variable aperture telephoto lens and a second 50 megapixel zoom sensor, replacing the current 12 megapixel module.
Samsung is also planning to introduce a new model called Galaxy S25 Slim in spring 2025. This thinner version will join the range a few months after the initial launch and will be distinguished in particular by its 200 megapixel main sensor, borrowed from the Ultra versions.
Increased performance for artificial intelligence
The technical characteristics would promise a significant increase in power. The Galaxy S25 Ultra could feature up to 16GB of RAM, up from the current 12GB, optimizing multitasking capabilities and processing AI features. We will see if Samsung offers new functions or intends to rely on those already offered within the Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6 and the Galaxy S24 series. Storage would benefit from UFS 4.1 technology, allowing faster transfer speeds and new possibilities like direct recording of 4K videos to an external hard drive.
A refined design and new colors
The manufacturer would have opted for a more rounded aesthetic on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, while retaining a flat front. The colors revealed for this premium model revolve around four versions in titanium: gray, black, blue and silver. Samsung should offer additional exclusive shades on its official website, as usual.
The user interface will also evolve with the integration of Android 15 and the One UI 7 overlay. Samsung should logically maintain its promise of seven years of software updates, identical to the S24 generation. The Bixby voice assistant could also be enriched with new generative AI features, according to statements by Won-joon Choi, executive vice president of the mobile division.
All these rumors remain, to date, hypothetical but there is not much time left to wait before having confirmation or denial.
