SZDiiER recently introduced several new portable gaming options, including the 3.5-inch D008 and the 5.5-inch D50 Plus. Additionally, the company has decided to tackle the newfound popularity of the 2.8-inch gaming console market with the Diium D-28S, as the name suggests.
As a reminder, the Anbernic RG28XX, MagicX XU Mini M, and Miyoo A30 (currently $64.99 on Amazon) all arrived this year with 2.8-inch screens. However, they adopted a horizontal layout, although with different characteristics to distinguish them from each other. In contrast, the D-28S adopts a more unusual vertical layout, at least for this screen size.
According to SZDiiER’s product listing, this compact display displays 640 x 480 pixels, just like the larger D008. Additionally, the D-28S is expected to come with an RK3326 chipset from Rockchip, which is also the basis for the Anbernic RG351 series and the Powkiddy RGB10Max 2. In other words, its emulation capabilities will likely be limited to gaming of the PlayStation 1, as indicated by RetroHandhelds note. For reference, SZDiiER charges the D-28S 185 CNY (~$26) in China; it’s not yet clear how much the device will cost elsewhere.
