The change is now. Nintendo announced this Tuesday a new episode in the “Zelda” saga for the Switch. And in The Legends of Zelda : Echoes of Wisdomthe titular princess takes on the role of main heroine for the first time, while Link goes missing.
Visually, the game is based on the remake of Link’s Awakening, released on Switch in 2019. The bright colors, top view and characters with exaggerated proportions are reminiscent of toys or figurines. With 6.46 million copies sold in December 2022, it was one of the best-selling games on the Nintendo console.
This is not the only formula change announced in this title. Princess Zelda will not fight with a sword, but with a scepter which allows her to create “Echoes”, that is to say, capture and reproduce monsters or decorative elements to use them to her advantage. The first images suggest that the game is inspired by the gameplay possibilities seen in Zelda, Breath of the Wild, but in 2D.
